Recruitment: Adviser (Health Security Workforce Development)

17 July 2018

The Indo-Pacific Centre for Health Security, established in the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), is seeking a Health Policy adviser/Project Manager to contribute to the work of a small, cross-disciplinary team. The purpose of this role is to deliver the Centre’s health security workforce program in collaboration with the Senior Advisor as line manager. The Adviser will work with colleagues to finalise the program design in the first quarter of 2018-19. The health workforce program will include aspects of both workforce capacity development and workforce deployment, as outlined in the investment design. The successful applicant will be working as part of a small team, and duties may change from time to time reflecting the workload of the team.  This work will involve engagement with stakeholders based in Australia and overseas, and may sometimes involve domestic and potentially international travel. The position is full time on a 12 month contract – although candidates wishing to work part time will be considered.  There is the possibility of an extension.

This position would suit a professional with interest and capacity in global health policy/security. The suitable applicant will have strong program management skills with knowledge and experience of development policy contexts and/or public health. Experience should include a minimum of three to five years of experience in the development and management of sizeable, complex development programs, preferably in the health sector, or similar experience with field epidemiology training program implementation or operation. A university qualification in a health-related field is highly desirable, although this is negotiable for someone with relevant experience.

Security clearance at or above NV1 is highly desirable. This is negotiable for the right applicant, provided they are prepared to undergo a baseline security clearance and potentially work towards an NV1 clearance.

This position will be contracted through the Specialist Health Service. The successful candidate will be based in Canberra and work directly as part of DFAT’s team within the Indo-Pacific Centre for Health Security. The Specialist Health Service (SHS) provides strategic input on health to the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).  The SHS allows DFAT to source high quality technical advice to support health policy, strategic planning and health programming across the aid management cycle.

Full details of responsibilities are provided in the position description attached. Please apply via the Abt Associates website with a current CV and responses to the key selection criteria included in the position description. Enquires regarding this role should be directed to: .

Applications close 29th July 2018. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
