Country Assistance

Australia's Health Security Initiative for the Indo-Pacific region aims to strengthen health security in our region through targeted, country-level investments in all relevant aspects of health systems strengthening.

In the first half of 2018, two high-level scoping teams comprising Centre for Health Security staff and health experts completed consultations with partner governments and other stakeholders in Pacific island countries and Southeast Asian countries to identify priorities for health security investments.

Final recommendations from the scoping teams will be provided to the Initiative’s Technical Reference Group for appraisal, and final program design choices will be reflected in the Initiative’s five-year strategic framework. Approximately a third of funding for Australia’s Health Security Initiative is earmarked towards partnerships at the country level, encompassing new and emerging infectious diseases as well as existing infectious diseases and drug resistance.
