Role: Health Information Systems Support
Partner Organisation: Ministry of Health, Tonga
Period: August 2019 - August 2020
Georgia joined the Health Security Corps in August 2019 and worked with Tonga's Ministry of Health in their Health Information Systems team. As part of a partnership between Tonga's Ministry of Health and Tupaia, Georgia worked on a project to capture Tonga’s Public Health statistics and centralise data to inform decision making. This works across public health divisions such as Communicable Diseases, Reproductive Health, Community Health and Health Promotion Unit. The project allows for long-term tracking of key health indicators, as well as recently being used to map outbreaks and inform the outbreak response. As an Australian Volunteer, Georgia worked with the public health division teams and IT department, gaining insight into the way that Public Health plays a crucial role in the Pacific.
The Health Security Corps deploys experts through the Australian Volunteers Program to build capacity for the prevention, detection and control of infectious disease across the Indo-Pacific.
