Tanya volunteered at Myanmar’s National Health Laboratory (NHL) in Yangon, working to strengthen molecular testing for the detection and surveillance of viral diseases, including influenza, measles, Hepatitis B and C. During this placement Tanya also provided leaning and development training to staff on areas such as diagnostic testing. The NHL aims to strengthen medical laboratory testing, with a goal to ensure all Myanmar people to have equitable access to quality laboratory services. Tanya was previously a Medical Laboratory Scientist at the Public Health Virology department of Queensland Health, and was part of a team responding to a pandemic when the Zika virus global health emergency occurred in 2016.
