CSIRO's Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) is supporting Southeast Asian and Pacific laboratories to adopt modern animal health diagnostic and surveillance tools through the APPLLe project.
In Vietnam, APPLLe is providing technical support and trainings to leading regional laboratories – NCVD 1 and 2 – to strengthen their animal disease surveillance techniques, sequencing capabilities, data analysis, information sharing and biosafety standards. Its advanced training covers African Swine Fever and other high-priority transboundary and zoonotic diseases.
The project is also supporting laboratory placements across the Asia Pacific, primarily with regional staff taking up placement opportunities at ACDP’s laboratory in Geelong, Australia.
In 2025, APPLLE also assumed regional proficiency testing responsibilities of 27 laboratories across seven Southeast Asian countries. This testing covers avian and swine diseases and is strengthening the region’s ability to compare results and receive external quality assurance.
