The Australian Institute for Health and Welfare (AIHW) Pacific Health Information Support Hub (PHISH) aims to strengthen the health information management capabilities of Pacific Island Countries (PICs). PHISH provides support at the regional level, as well as working directly with Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu to improve their ability to collect, validate, analyse, and present health data to inform public health policy.
This partnership develops and implement innovative open-source digital health tools suitable for our region, to improve health outcomes in low-resource settings. This includes Open mSupply, Tamanu, Tupaia, Tupaia MediTrak and DataTrak, and the SENAITE Laboratory Information System and Health Supply Hub. These tools enhance healthcare delivery and data management, making health systems more efficient and effective.
Australia has been supporting the Burnet Institute, PNG Institute of Medical Research and PNG National Department of Health to implement the Stronger Surveillance for Vector Borne Pathogens (STRIVE) program in Papua New Guinea since 2018 and is committed to the effective delivery of Phase 2.
Australia is continuing its support for HIV testing and treatment initiatives in Papua New Guinea through the ACTUP-PNG program.
Tupaia aggregates and visualises data from multiple sources to help improve medicines availability, map disease outbreaks, respond to disasters and strengthen service provision in the Indo-Pacific.
