CSIRO's Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness: Pacific Networked Diagnostics and Support (PaNDAS)

Through the Pacific Networked Diagnostics and Support project (PaNDAS), CSIRO’s Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) is working with laboratories and field partners in Pacific Island countries and territories to strengthen Pacific capabilities to detect and diagnose animal and zoonotic diseases in the region.

PaNDAS’ activities include hands‑on training and mentoring and laboratory placements at ACDP to develop the skills of laboratory staff in field diagnostics, molecular testing and serology.

PaNDAS is also supporting the revitalisation of the Pacific Animal Health Laboratory Network (PAHLNet) and strengthening leading regional laboratories in New Caledonia and Fiji to generate national and regional health data.

At successful project completion, PaNDAS will have helped improve the Pacific’s diagnostic and surveillance readiness, including its capabilities in regional coordination, consistent diagnostic approaches and timely support for animal disease investigations. This is crucial for the early detection, treatment, prevention, surveillance and monitoring of infectious animal and zoonotic diseases – contributing to human and animal health security in the Pacific.
