This project aims to strengthen national field-to-laboratory capacities and strengthen regional networks for viromics-based emerging infectious disease (EID) surveillance at the wildlife interface.
This project will contribute to the evaluation and stepwise progression towards building a more responsive viromics and metagenomics-based wildlife EID surveillance capability in Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia and Laos and the region, via increased whole genome sequencing capacity. Project outcomes will be achieved through regional laboratory networks, field and laboratory capacity building and training, data and information sharing, and advocacy to government authorities and decision-makers based on interpretation and use of viromics surveillance data. These networks will contribute to national and regional health security by strengthening EID diagnostic capabilities in at-risk wildlife interfaces in Southeast Asia, an area of priority in a region considered high-risk for EIDs.
