Australia is supporting the Global Alliance for TB Drug Development (TB Alliance) to advance TB treatments through innovative research and capacity building. TB Alliance is improving outcomes for all TB patients and communities through trialling and developing shorter, simplified and more affordable treatment regimes. To ensure faster uptake and access to new life-saving TB treatments, TB Alliance has created a Manila-based peer-to-peer knowledge hub for countries to learn from other national TB programs for implementation of new guidelines and to support clinical training.
In Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and PNG, capacity building and demand-driven activities for TB treatment are being implemented at provincial and local administrative health levels. Combined, these initiatives will deepen the leadership role of partners in Southeast Asia and the Pacific to strengthen coordination mechanisms for future trial implementation, access to products, and scale. TB Alliance is building a more inclusive and improved health system through its capacity building, preparing for future pandemics and increasing the availability of TB medicines across our region.
